Devon & Somerset Wing Cadets visited RIAT at the weekend.
Some of the cadets and staff from 41F (Taunton & District) Squadron exploring the aircraft on show at RIAT2017 yesterday. By simply asking, they enjoyed private tours of the US Navy P8 Poseidon and the Ukranian Air Force Ilyushin Il-76.
Whilst some Cadets just came for the day, others stayed for a whole week to help set everything up and take it all down again. Every year, the twelve highest-performing RIAT first-timers under 15 years of age are selected for the coveted ‘Red Sparrows’ Award.
Cpl Alex Waldeck 1031(Frome) Sqn was chosen as one of the Red Sparrows at RIAT Camp this year. Here he is being presented with his Hat and T-Shirt by Comdt Air Cadets Air Cdre McCafferty
Cadets from across Devon & Somerset Wing attended Yeovilton Air Day on 8th July.
Some Cadets went along to help out with selling programmes and provided assistance in the seating areas and hangers.
Others went along to have a look around; these lucky few managed to make their way on board a Merlin Mk3 to have a look around before going on to enjoy the air displays.
Cadets and Staff from 41F and 1064 Sqns helped to launch nearly 40 Gliders as part of Competition Enterprise at Devon and Somerset Gliding Club.
Cadets were able to watch an amazing pyrotechnic show as some of the Gliders had lights attached to it and ‘performed’ one evening. Cadets also got hands on and helped to take one of the aerobatic gliders apart and loaded it on to its trailer.
It was hard work but a great experience. Thanks to all of those that gave time to help
