EXETER, GLASTONBURY AND TIVERTON AIR CADETS VISIT FLYBE ACADEMY
Lucky air cadets from Exeter, Tiverton and Glastonbury Squadrons, were recently given a tour of the Flybe Academy facility at Exeter International Airport.
On arrival they were given a safety brief for the visit and were told that a short notice slot had become available on the Dash 8-Q400 aircraft flight simulator. The cadets and staff were taken to the simulator hanger where an Embraer 170/195 aircraft simulator was in use by a flight crew.
The air cadet group was later taken on the Dash 8 aircraft simulator in small groups and everyone described the experience and trainer briefing as amazingly real. The overall feel was described as like being on the flight deck of a real Dash 8.
Cadets also had chance to try out the emergency slide evacuation chute, perform a passenger safety briefing and take control of the main aircraft door, including arming and activating the emergency escape controls.
The visit was enlightening and provided a behind the scenes experience, useful for any of the cadets considering the civil pilot, crew or engineering route as a future career.
Thanks go to Flybe and all the staff that looked after the cadets so well during a great visit.
