FOCUS ON EXMOUTH AIR CADETS
Air Cadets at 299 (Exmouth) Squadron are having a very busy time with many activities taking place at the recently opened joint cadet centre which they share with the town’s Army Cadet Force. The two cadet units parade on different nights.
It’s not all about flying and gliding at the squadron. Aviation studies are run alongside military training, aeromodelling and target shooting, there is a strong emphasis on adventure training.
The squadron has recently acquired new portable radios for communications training and use during field craft training and exercises.
Exmouth Squadron was formed back in 1941 and has the motto ‘Second to none’. Its current Commanding Officer is Squadron Leader Richard Bagnall who has been in charge since 2004.
It’s all about getting out there at Exmouth Squadron. Last year staff and cadets were able to visit the Normandy area of France and saw the second world war D – Day landing grounds and historic battle fields.
Exmouth Squadron is a fun place to be with cadets taking part in a wide variety of activities including air experience flying at RAF St Mawgan. There is a planned trip to the Royal International Air Tattoo which will take place at RAF Fairford in July.
If you are interested in joining the squadron as a cadet or member of adult volunteer staff, you will be made most welcome. Call 0345 600 6601 or visit www.raf.mod.uk/aircadets
