Royal British Legion Devon Youth Remembers Parade 2016
On Saturday 5th November, Cadets and Staff from 13 (City of Exeter) Squadron Air Training Corps took part in the Royal British Legion’s Devon Youth Remembers Parade through Exeter to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
They were joined by two other Devon ATC units, Plymouth and Cornwall Wing’s 2443 (Okehampton) and 339 (South Dartmoor) Squadrons, along with the Plymouth and Cornwall Wings Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Francis Reis RAFVR(T).
The parade, which also included members of Devon’s Army Cadet Force and Sea Cadets Corps marched to the Northenhay Gardens War Memorial where the salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, David Fursdon, the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Cynthia Thompson and the President of Royal British Legion Devon, the Hon. Sarah Lopes.
Afterwards there was a short Service of Remembrance followed by the laying of Battle of the Somme crosses on Exeter Cathedral Green.
The event, involving some seventy cadets from all parts of the county, also highlighted the Cadet Forces of Devon, and particularly their support of the Royal British Legion at Remembrance time.
